Rita Adams Melancon Rayne - Funeral services will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. for Rita Adams Melancon, 89 who died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Rayne, LA at her daughters residence surrounded by her family. Celebrant for the service will be Centenary United Methodist Church Pastor Rev. Charlie Floyd with Chaplain Jack Hall and friend, Brother Roy "Jay" Comeaux. Interment will be in the Rayne Cemetery Inc., Rayne, LA. Surviving are three sons, Leo Melancon, Jr. and wife Gwen of Morgan City, son, Percy James Melancon and wife Annette of Baton Rouge, Mark Adams Melancon and wife Donna of Lafayette, one daughter, Bonnie Rita Melancon Johnson and husband Albert of Rayne, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Nettie Parries of Mount Airy, NC, Winnie Payne of Virgina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Melancon, Sr., granddaughter, Angelique Rene Melancon, parents, Rev. Robert Moses Adams and Mary Etta Byrd Adams, seven sisters, Carrie Richardson, Gladys Hawks, Elda Wood, Eloise Daszynski, Leona Adams, Monene Marshall and Lois Stevens, two brothers, Vaden Adams and Asa Adams. She was born Tuesday, November 13, 1923 in Pineville, WV, Daughter of the late Robert Moses Adams and the late Mary Etta Byrd Adams. Rita was a kind, generous and loving person. She was always quick with a smile and a word of encouragement. She shared her sewing skills for many years through the United Methodist Bazaar and remained an active member until her passing. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Rayne and a member of the United Methodist Women since 1963. Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, LA.
