Neva Ann Smith Rayne, LA - Memorial services will be held on Friday March 21, 2025, at 4:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Neva Ann Simon Smith, 68, who died Monday March 17, 2025, at Lafayette General Hospital. Deacon Dennis LaCroix of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be the Celebrant. Neva, a native and lifelong resident of Rayne, Louisiana, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who brought warmth, kindness, and joy to all who knew her. Neva was known for her love of music, particularly the timeless tunes of Alan Jackson and Elvis Presley. She could often be found relaxing in her favorite chair, completely engrossed in their performances, never answering the phone or the door until the music had played through. Their melodies brought her comfort, and she cherished every note. An avid user of Facebook, Neva enjoyed spending her days chatting with loved ones and browsing through the pictures her family shared. The joy she took in staying connected with her family, whether near or far, was one of the many ways she showed her love and devotion. When her children were younger, Neva and her husband created lasting memories through their love of outdoor activities. They would spend weekends camping and fishing, teaching their children the value of nature and the importance of family time. These moments remained close to Neva’s heart, and she often fondly reminisced about those simpler days spent in the great outdoors. Survivors include her three sons, Garon Johnston, Steven and wife Jackie Courville Johnston, and Mervin and wife Morgan Habetz Smith Jr., brothers, Harold Simon, and Gerald Simon, her grandchildren Crystal Wolcott, Blaze Johnston, and Scotlyn Johnston. Neva was preceded in death by parents, Colmare, and Gladys Simon, her first husband, Donald Ray Johnston, and second husband, Mervin Smith Sr., brothers, Wilders Simon, and Douglas Simon, and one sister, Ozeline Reed. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 PM in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne LA on Friday March 21, 2025, from 1:00 pm until time of service.
