Merella Jane Melancon McFalls Rayne, LA - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for Merella Jane Melancon McFalls, 88, who died Sunday, May 15, 2022 at her residence. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Rev. Henry Anthony, Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Deacon Denis LaCroix with St. Joseph Catholic Church will also be serving. During a random conversation about obituaries, my mom said all she wanted was to say that she had a wonderful life - and she did. Merella Jane Melancon McFalls was born to Artilus and Leoncia Mouton Melancon on November 21, 1933 in Bosco, LA. She was the youngest of seven children. She worked at Mervine Kahn's for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She attended Mire Elementary and graduated from Rayne High School in 1952. She was proud to be a drummer for the Wolfettes. She met her future husband on a blind date while he was stationed at Chenault Air Force Base in Lake Charles. They married on Valentine's Day in 1953. Billy Ray McFalls was from Spring City, TN. They had the opportunity to travel for 24 years. When he retired, they returned to Rayne. She was the secretary at Rayne High for 36 years. After retirement she took care of her great grandkids. You could have seen her at any number of sporting events for her grandkids and wearing purple and gold for Rayne High. She loved all sports. She was also a huge Saints fan. You can see her frog painted like Drew Brees. She was a constant walker in our neighborhood clocking in 2-3 miles every day. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Billy Ray McFalls, one daughter, Norellie Jane McFalls Fontenot and spouse Jimmy, three grandchildren, Kyle James McFalls Fontenot and spouse Lauren Sapeenza, Tyler James (TJ) McFalls Fontenot and spouse Lauren Venable, Kayla Jane McFalls Fontenot Deaville and spouse Trevor Deaville, six grandchildren, London Fontenot, Graham Fontenot, Tate Fontenot, Sullivan Fontenot, Fisher Fontenot, and Jules Katherine Deaville. She was also blessed by numerous and loving nieces and nephews. She is preceeded in death by her parents, Artilus and Leoncia Melancon, three brothers, Percy Melancon, Leo Melancon and spouse Rita, Joseph (Blackie) and spouse Gloria, three sisters, Norellie Melancon, Mary Leon and spouse Lee Leon, Buella Guidry and spouse Calvin Guidry. Pallbearers will be Kyle Fontenot, TJ Fontenot, Trevor Deaville, Jimmy Fontenot, Cal Guidry and Skipper Melancon. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given by Dr. Tommy Curtis, Evangeline Home Health and Heart of Hospice. A special thank you to her caregivers, Autumn and Lisa. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Thursday May 19, 2022 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm.
