John Lee Istre Sr. Rayne/Crowley, LA - Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at a 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for John Lee Istre Sr., 80, who died Thursday October 30, 2025, at his residence in Crowley in Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Mausoleum in Rayne, LA. The Very Rev. Brent L. Smith VF of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. John was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he dedicated 15 years to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he retired as Assistant Warden. During his career, he also served faithfully as a Corrections Officer, Kitchen Supervisor, and Training Division Deputy. John was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife Nell Prevost Istre, daughter, Jena and spouse David Coty Bordes, son, John Lee Istre Jr. and spouse Rachel Istre, Grandchildren, Andrew and spouse Elizabeth Bordes, Ashley Istre and spouse Grant Broussard, Brittany and spouse Shayan Gulzar, brothers, Ervis Istre, and Lawrence and spouse Vicky Istre, his sister-in-law Patty Sureta Istre brothers-in-law, Leewood John Prevost, Gregory Lafosse. John was preceded in death by his parent's father, Celestin and Beatrice Dupont Istre, brothers, Stephen Istre, Ernest Istre, Harry Lee Istre, his sister, Linda Ann Istre, father-in-law, Clarence J. Prevost, mother-in-law, Marie Alice Prevost, Brother-in-law, Carlton J. Prevost, sisters-in-law, Linda Duhon Istre, Ella Mae Istre. Pallbearers will be Andrew Bordes, David Coty Bordes, Ryan Istre, Lawrence Istre, Ervis Istre, and Grant Broussard. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne LA on Sunday November 2, 2025, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Monday November 3, 2025, from 8:00 am to 10:30 am.
