Herbert Charles Simpson Mire, LA - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 2:30 pm at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, LA for Herbert Charles Simpson, 83, who died Sunday, August 2, 2026 at his residence in Mire, LA. Interment will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery Mausoleum in Mire, LA. Deacon Denis LaCroix with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, LA will conduct the funeral services. Charles graduated from Rayne High School. Then served in the United States Navy from March 1961 to June 1963. He retired from the oil and gas industry. His love was training horses and going to the track to watch them run. In his younger days he enjoyed playing pool with friends. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Champagne Simpson, three children, Timmy Simpson, Sadie Simpson Richard and spouse Glen Richard, Bridget Simpson, four grandchildren, Ryker Richard, Brayden Poole, Charlie Poole, Jack Poole, two brothers, Samuel Simpson and spouse Chris Simpson, Julian Simpson, five sisters, Sylvia Simpson Link and spouse Billy Link, Charlotte Simpson Privat, Charlene Simpson LeBlanc, Sue Simpson Zaunbrecher and spouse Tony Zaunbrecher, Christa Simpson, two brothers in law, Kevin Champagne, Greg Champagne and spouse Beth Champagne, three sisters in law, Judy Champagne Boudreaux and spouse Conrad Boudreaux, Donna Champagne Feigtag and spouse Carl Feigtag, Joan Lalonde Champagne. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Simpson Smith and spouse Jimmy "Bubba" Smith, parents, Herbert Paul Simpson and Verna Mae Gilbert Simpson, one brother, Albert Simpson, three brothers in law, Dan Privat, Randy Champagne, Robert LeBlanc, his in laws, Russell and Winfred Champagne. Pallbearers will be Timmy Simpson, Glen Richard, Ryker Richard, Brayden Poole, Charlie Poole, Sammy Simpson, Chip Privat. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Poole, Julian Simpson. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 12:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA.
