Henry Lee "Pete" Melancon Mire, LA - Funeral services will be held at Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church, Friday, November 20, 2015 at a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am for Henry Lee "Pete" Melancon , 75, who died Monday, November 16, 2015 in Houston, TX. Interment will be in the Assumption of the BVM Cemetery, Mire, LA. Surviving are wife of 54 years, Sharron "Sheree" Dolcater Melancon of Mire, one son, Dwayne Melancon and wife Kathleen of Tigard, OR, one daughter, Emelie Melancon Barbry and husband Chris, Sr., of Marksville, five grandchildren, Abby Morrow, Daniel Melancon, Christine Melancon, Maddie Morrow, Sara Jane Melancon, one sister-in-law, Sylvia Lopez and husband Henry, III of Golden City, MO. He was preceded in death by parents, Henry Melancon and Florence LaRive Melancon. Mr. Melancon was a graduate of Rayne High School in 1957. After graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1961 and United States Navy from 1961-1966. In 1967 he graduated from the Louisiana State Police Training Academy and retired from the Louisiana State Police in 1983 with 20 years. In 1977 he graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He also had 10 years experience in National Security with the National Security Agency, USMC, and the U.S. Naval Security Group. Mr. Melancon was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Bishop Stanley J. Ott Assembly, American Legion serving in all levels of local and district offices, and a Charter member of the Louisiana State Troopers Association. He received an award from the Louisiana State Police as the outstanding Trooper from 1972-1973. He was inducted in Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Honor Society of Phi Gamma Mu. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, LA Thursday, November 19, 2015, 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Friday, November 20, 2015, 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
