Louetta Frances Hains Moody RAYNE - Louetta Frances Hains Moody, 95, of Rayne, LA passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022. At her side was her loving and devoted husband of 73 years, Lon Jacob Moody III. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, during a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, LA. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Rev. Brent Smith, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Louetta, or Mama Lou as she loved to be called, was born on January 11, 1927, in Lyons Point, Louisiana. She was raised on the farm with sisters Aileen and Rowena in the community of Ebenezer. She graduated from Crowley High School in 1943 and went on to continue her education at SLI in Lafayette where she earned her degree and teaching certification for elementary education. She found her calling first try! She began her teaching career at 19 years of age at Rayne Central Elementary in 1946. There she met her devoted husband, L.J., who returned from Naval service at the conclusion of World War II. As luck would have it her future in-laws, Lon Moody and wife Cecile, had moved from Eunice to Rayne at the end of the war and bought a home right across the street from her school. Cecile encouraged her son to meet the pretty young teacher and take her to the drug store for a soda, “before somebody else does.” Louetta said that his ears were as red as the brick on the school when he introduced himself. Romance bloomed and they were married on July 14, 1948, at the old Saint Joseph Church. Mama Lou went on to have a very enjoyable career of teaching elementary school children at South Rayne Elementary and retired in 1980. She enjoyed teaching fourth grade the most. She loved all children and was gifted with an abundance of patience for her students and children. She and L.J. raised a family of three boys and two girls on East Henry Street in Rayne. She was a faithful member and attended Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Mama Lou most enjoyed having family and friends for get-together’s and back yard BBQ’s. The shady side of the house was a wonderful place for her to be with her children and friends. But, the couple’s true happy place was Sam Houston State Park, near Moss Bluff, where they spent many vacations and long weekends with family and friends. She treasured her many friendships. Mama Lou often told her family how important it was to have close friends, saying, “You can’t have too many friends.” She loved to cook and delighted family and friends with delicious dishes. She also loved to play card games and socialize. Traveling around the country was another one of the many things she enjoyed, along with fishing and boat riding. Louetta is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur Hains and lsaure Trahan Hains; beloved sister Aileen Hains Richard; grandson Brian Moody; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Moody. She is survived by her husband Lon Jacob Moody III; sister, Rowena Hains Hill; and children, Mark Moody and wife Joan Flores Moody of LaComb; Neil Moody and wife Michelene Suire Moody of Bridge City, Texas, Lenore Moody LeBlanc and husband Jesse LeBlanc of League City, Texas, Lonnie Moody and wife Melinda Leger Moody of Rayne, and Maureen Moody Benoit and husband Kevin Benoit of Rayne.
