His battle with cancer was brief, but his will to fight did not diminish even to his final breath. While his body may have failed, his sharp wit and edgy sense of humor remained consistent through his final days as he continued to bring joy and laughter to those around him. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Mausoleum in Rayne, LA. Deacon Denis LaCroix with St. Joseph Catholic Church will conduct the funeral services. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 6:30 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. Tom was born on March 2, 1953 to Dale and Sylvia Brown in New Orleans, LA. After graduating from Chalmette High School in 1971, he went on to continue his studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism Broadcasting. After graduation he began his career as a sports broadcaster for KLFY 10. He eventually transitioned into the sales industry and spent the last 27 years working in purchasing for Church Point Wholesale as a Category Manager for candy and snacks. A self proclaimed “sports junkie,” Tom loved all things sports. He was especially passionate about anything involving UL athletics as he spent many years working in the press box and running the scoreboard for an array of UL sports. He remained active with Notre Dame High School athletics, and he wrote post-game stories for the Crowley Post Signal. Tom also broadcasted the Notre Dame Friday night football games over the radio and was a member of ‘Five Guys Stories and Lies’ radio talk show. His daughters were his pride and joy as he was always their biggest fan and loudest cheerleader. He adored his grandchildren whom he supported unconditionally through all of their endeavors from wrestling matches and baseball games to dance recitals and graduations. He is survived by his daughters Lindsey Brown, Casey Curtis (husband JT), Kelsey Caswell (husband Bren); eight grandchildren Tiffany Trahan, Kaydon Trahan, Addisyn Trahan, Jack Hunt, Dane Curtis, Wes Curtis, Effi-Anna Caswell, and Josie-Beth Caswell; one sister Janet Brown; one aunt Betty Ann Higginbotham (husband George) of Pontotoc, Mississippi; one uncle Robert Brown, Jr. (wife Toni) of Houlka, Mississippi; one godchild Angela Doucet Mickles; and a host of cousins and friends. He was anxiously anticipating his promotion to great-grandfather in September upon the arrival of his great-grandson Jett Mikel Trahan. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Dale Gipson Brown; his mother, Sylvia Marie Bergeron Brown; his grandparents, Robert Gipson and Annie Bell Brown, and Edward and Mathilde Bergeron; as well as three aunts, and long-time friend Stewart Blue. Pallbearers will be JT Curtis, Bren Caswell, Kaydon Trahan, Jack Hunt, Guy Rials, Bobby Blanchard, Dan McDonald, Glen Quebedeaux. In lieu of flowers monetary donations can be made in Tom’s memory to the Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation, P. O. Box 43603, Lafayette, LA 70504. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Elias Moussaly, the oncology staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Fritz Welter, the ULL posse, ‘Maconga,’ and to all friends and family members who have reached out in any kind of way. We have felt your love and support as we have navigated through this very difficult season. Friends may view the obituary and guestbook online at www.gossenfuneralhome.net.
