Zula Mae Richard Stutes Rayne, LA - Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for Zula Mae Richard Stutes, 87, who died Friday, February 24, 2023, at her residence. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Deacon Denis LaCroix of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Stutes Falcon and spouse Andy, daughter, Cynthia Stutes Johnson, two sons, Bradley Stutes and spouse Anita, Craig Stutes and spouse Jana, 15 grandchildren, Dana Falcon, Bendy Falcon, Jan Falcon, Drew Falcon, Kyle Stutes, Dawn Stutes, Tyler Stutes, Britni Stutes, Brooke Stutes, Cris Rood, Kade Stutes, Matty Stutes, Blayne Abshire, Ann Johnson, Casey Abshire, 13 great grandchildren, Alex Rood, Ayden Rood, Asa Rood, Alexah Stutes, Gaberial Gibson, Everleigh Gibson, Blayson Abshire, Kaylee Abshire, Avery Abshire, Anystin Rood, Aryden Rood, Chloe Stutes, Audrey Stutes, and sister, Ruth Dupont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrus Stutes, father, Columbus Richard, mother, Mamie Richard, three brothers, Jimmy Richard, Edward Richard, Roy Richard and son-in-law, Bobby Johnson. “Mom-Mom” as she was famously known, developed a love for hard work at a young age. If you had the privilege to catch a story, she had no problem telling you that she was a “jack of all trades.” From picking cotton to driving rice trucks, nursing, carpentry and sometimes a mechanic, there wasn’t much that she could not do. Equipped with a strong memory and threads, she could replicate any dress or suit on her sewing machine at home. Mom-Mom also enjoyed baking and designing some of the tastiest wedding cakes around. Mom-Mom spent the last few years working in the General Store of Acadian Village with Pop. After Pop’s passing, she spent most of her time at home, visiting with anyone that would walk through the door or call. Although her health declined, her love for cooking remained strong. Mom-Mom left a lasting impression in everyone’s heart and will forever be missed. A special thank you to Denise Credeur, Monique Bush, Flo Sizemore and also her favorite therapist, Sam, for all their time and love spent with her the last few years. Pallbearers will be Kade Stutes, Blayne Abshire, Blayson Abshire, Bendy Falcon, Dana Falcon, Drew Falcon, Kyle Stutes and Tyler Stutes. A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 3:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Monday, February 27, 2023, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.
