Wilfred James "Coon" Romero, Sr. Rayne, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Wilfred James "Coon" Romero, Sr., 74, of Rayne will be celebrated on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 12:00 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2, Rayne. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, LA. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Mr. Romero passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 1:15 PM in his Rayne residence. A native of Lyons Point, Mr. Romero was a longtime resident of Rayne. He worked for Gray Wolf Drilling for over 25 years, and for other oilfield companies until his retirement. He love fishing, gardening, and raising chicken and sheep. He loved his puppy, Pebbles. His greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for his family. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley Mae Navarre Romero of Rayne; sons, Terry J. Romero and wife, Julie of Crowley, and Murray J. Romero and wife, Joan of Indian Bayou; daughters, Tammy R. Saltzman and husband, Harry Lee of Rayne, and Christine R. Istre and husband, Wayne of Rayne; grandchildren, Heather Romero, Wilfred Romero, III, Heidi Meaux, Dylan Romero, Dennis Romero, Nicholas Romero, Josie Hebert, Perry Romero, II, Crystal Abshire, Mandy Istre, Brandon Romero, Myra Istre, Nicole Alleman, Wayne Istre, II, Gaven Istre, Megan Istre, and Taylor Istre, Brittany Romero, Tyler Romero, Dustin LeBlanc, Cory LeBlanc, Bryce LeBlanc, Jessie Romero, Ashlyn Guidry, Jacob Istre, and Hailee Istre; 12 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Dorothy Leger and husband, Robert of Lake Charles; sister, Liz Deaville of Rayne; brother, Jimmy Romero and wife, Bertha of Rayne; step-sister, Betty Jean Johnson of Lake Charles; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Romero of Crowley. Preceding Mr. Romero in death were his parents, Otis and Marie Breaux Romero; sons, Wilfred J. Romero, Jr., Infant Perry Romero, and Perry Romero, I; sisters, Shirley Dupuis, Winnie Prejean, and Bernice Richard; and brother, Elias Romero. Serving as pallbearers are Murray Romero, Terry Romero, Wilfred Romero, III, Perry Romero, II, Dennis Romero, and Wayne Istre, II. Named as honorary pallbearers are Nicolas Romero and Wayne Istre, I.
