Stanley Osterland Gates Roberts Cove, LA - Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove for Stanley Osterland Gates, 71, who died Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Interment will be in the St. Leo IV Cemetery in Rayne, LA. Rev. Mitchell Guidry of will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on May 9, 1954, Stan graduated from Oakdale High School in Oakdale and Northwestern State University in Natchitoches where he was an active member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He retired from a long career in the insurance industry and was spending his retirement helping others in the tools department at Lowe's, getting to use the skills he honed working with his father at Oakdale Builders. Stan was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church where he was active with his rosary group. During his years in Monroe he was a 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus Council 1937, also serving as Grand Knight. Stan thrived on public speaking evidenced by his involvement with Toastmasters International through State Farm. Stan will be remembered as an avid LSU fan who loved with his whole heart. Nothing brought him more pride than his children and grandchildren. His unconditional love will be his lasting legacy. Survivors include wife, Jane Frances Klein Gates of Roberts Cove, two daughters, Rebecca Gates Ledet and spouse Patrick Ledet of Thibodaux, Rachel Gates and companion Jesse Dupas of Roberts Cove, two sons, Matthew Klein Gates and spouse Bethany Cramer Gates of Roberts Cove, John Daniel Gates and spouse Harley Rae Gates of Roberts Cove, five grandchildren, William Ledet, Elizabeth Ledet, Emilia Ledet, Layton Dupas, Kohen Gates, two sisters, Sarah Katherine Ahrens and spouse Edward Ahrens of Natchitoches, Elizabeth Ann Gates of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by father, Stanley Wickliffe Gates, mother, Mary Osterland Gates, sister, Mary Jane Gates Romero. Pallbearers will be Patrick Ledet, John Daniel Gates, Klein Gates, Alvin Klein, Anthony Meadows, Jesse Dupas. Honorary pallbearers will be William Ledet, Layton Dupas. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA on Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
