Milton Joseph Melancon, Sr. Crowley, LA - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, LA, for Milton Joseph Melancon, Sr., 94, who died Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Landmark Nursing Home in Crowley, LA. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Mausoleum in Rayne, LA. Deacon Denis LaCroix of St. Joseph Catholic Church will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Melancon was one of 10 children born to Ovey and Eurma Melancon. "Mitt" as he was known by everyone was the owner of Melancon Paint and Body Shop in Rayne for many years. He was also a well-known Cajun musician who received many awards and recognitions over the years. He was inducted into the Cajun Music Hall of Fame and his fiddle playing brought him on tours to various states and even a special trip to France. Mitt was also an avid gardener. He took great pride in his vegetables and his orange trees. He kept a garden at home and work for many years and he shared the bounty of his crops with family and friends. A visit with Mitt was always a pleasure and an added bonus was the bag of delicious vegetables he left behind. Survivors include four sons, Milton Melancon, Jr. and spouse Juliana, Darrell Melancon and spouse Donna, Timmy Melancon, Teddy Melancon, three daughters, Eleanor "Tiny" Baham, Melody Miller and spouse Dustin, Sharon Bertrand, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, four sisters, Nora Miller, Eva Dell Duplechin, Margie Duplechin, and Frances Miguez. He was preceded in death by his father, Ovey Melancon, mother, Eurma Melancon, wife, Willa Mae Melancon, wife, Beatrice Melancon, son, Tommy Melancon, grandson, David Melancon, two brothers, Overton "Teco" Melancon, Roy Melancon, three sisters, Ruby Thibodeaux, Emma Higginbotham, Nola Harmon, four sons-in-law, Michael "Mike" Meche, Wendel Bertrand, Ronnie Miller, and Jimmy Baham. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 11:00 am in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA.
