Melvin Lynn Spell Indian Bayou, LA - Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Indian Bayou Methodist Church in Indian Bayou for Melvin Lynn Spell, 70, went to the Lord on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Courtyard Manor Nursing Home Nursing Home in Lafayette, LA. Interment will be in the Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery in Indian Bayou, LA. He was born on October 18, 1951 in Rayne, Louisiana. His parents were the late Virginia May Martin Spell and Elias Wade Spell. His late paternal grandparents were Laura Gertrude Hoffpauir Spell and B. W. Spell and his late maternal grandparents were the Reverend Alban Mitchell Martin and Eva Mae Williams Martin. His paternal biological grandfather was Elias (Tam) Spell, who had died before Melvin was born. His older brother Wade Martin Spell and older sister Janette May Spell preceded him in death. Melvin is survived by a sister Sharon Leigh Spell Richard and her husband Raywood John Richard. And a sister Sarah Ruth Spell and her husband Dwayne Fatherree. Also, his aunt Maxine Martin Wagner. His nieces Tara Michelle R. Trahan, Amy S. Austin, Rae Johnson and his nephews Ryan Scott Richard and Craig J. Spell. Also, his great nieces Kaitlyn M. Austin and Lindsey Claire Richard, Malory Broussard and his great nephews, Caleb Cole Richard, Austin Broussard. Melvin was raised in the Ridge/Indian Bayou area which he always considered his home. He was in the last graduating class of Judice High School in 1969. There he played sports and was introduced to his love of working with wood. He served in the Navy from 1970 - 1974. In the Navy, he was trained as a Photographer. This skill he used for years after coming out of the Navy. He would take and develop his own pictures. And like the rest of his family he appreciated music. He sang and he taught himself to play a guitar. He attended several semesters at USL in Lafayette. Also, he had some training in drafting at a trade school. Melvin was a member of the Indian Bayou United Methodist Church. In his youth he was in the choir and a member of the MYF organization. He loved the Lord and he always had a Bible in his possession. After serving in the Navy, his favorite job was working in home construction.
