Luke Dugas Duson, LA - Funeral services will be held at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel at a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 pm, Thursday, April 14, 2016 for Luke Dugas, while surrounded by his family peacefully passed on April 10, at Lafayette General Hospital. He was 90 years old. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. His love of fishing, french music, singing, dancing and playing the slots brought out a big smile across his face and sparkle to his twinkling blue eyes that were not damped by Alzheimer. His love of life touched all who knew him. Interment will be in St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson, LA. Luke proudly served his country as a Marine in WWII. He worked in the oil field industry for several years before settling down as a baker at Lafayette Sunbeam Bakery until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ulysses Dugas and Francis Bilodeau Dugas; two brothers, Clifton Dugas and Travis Dugas, two sisters; Beatrice Alleman and Gladys Dugas, and grandson Chad Martin. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Birdie Lavergne Dugas; two daughters, Erline Dugas Martin and husband Roy of Lafayette, and Beckie Dugas Hariu and husband Stephen of Scott; one son Earl Dugas of Natchitoches, two granddaughters: Kami Martin Celino of New Orleans, Crystal Hariu Damore and husband Pete of Austin, Texas; one grandson; Scott Dugas and wife Jennifer of Natchitoches, two great-grandsons; Morgan Dugas of Winnfield and Austin Celino of New Orleans; one great-granddaughter Elise Celino of New Orleans and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Roy Martin, Stephen Hariu, Scott Dugas, Morgan Dugas, Pete Damore, and George Toutcheque. Honorary pallbearers are Austin Celino and Lloyd Champagne. The Dugas family would like to thank the staff at Courtyard Manor, especially his nurses Dashawn Lawrence and Constance Chapman along with Boo Credeur his driver for their dedicated services during the last three and a half years. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 11:30 am at Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, LA. Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., at Rayne, LA.
