Lawrence Eloi Guidry Rayne--Funeral services for Lawrence Eloi Guidry, 94, will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 12:00 PM in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, Rayne. Father Samuel Fontana, Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment with Military Graveside Honors will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2, Rayne. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 9:00 AM until service time in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, with a rosary being prayed by Catholic Daughters of America at 10:30 AM. American Legion honors will be presented on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Mr. Guidry passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Lumberton, MS. As a member of The Greatest Generation, Mr. Guidry served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman throughout the European Theater of Operations, and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds incurred during combat operations. A native of Rayne, Mr. Guidry lived in Gretna for many years. He worked for Associated Distributors Company, retiring as manager after many faithful years of service. Following retirement, Mr. Guidry returned to Acadia Parish for several years, and had relocated to Lumberton, MS recently to be near family. Mr. Guidry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he attended First Baptist Church of Rayne. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Exaltha Landry Guidry of Rayne; daughters, Judy Windham and husband, Lamar of Brookwood, AL, Brenda Caruso and husband, Carl of Lumberton, MS, and Donna Gautreaux and husband, David of Lumberton, MS; sisters, Marie Broussard of Rayne, and Jeanette Leger of Rayne; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceding Mr. Guidry in death were his son, Donald Guidry; parents, Eloi and Anna Caillier Guidry; sisters, Ella Mae Foreman, Viola Blanchard, and Julia Guidry; and brothers, Dr. John Guidry, Dennis Guidry, Paul Guidry, Harry Guidry, Gerald Guidry, and Rodney Guidry.
