Joyce Guidry Spell Rayne - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Joyce Guidry Spell, 91, who passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026 at her residence in Rayne, Louisiana. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, Louisiana. Very Rev. Brent Smith, VF, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rayne, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be her godchild, Lisa Alleman, and her niece Sharon Rue Racca. Offertory Gift Bearers will be her great grandchildren, Rylie Spell Stieber, Tyler Spell, Layne Autin, Madelynn Derise, and Meredith Derise. On November 22, 1934, Joyce Guidry was welcomed into the world as the sixth of eleven children born to Bertrand and Elita Guidry in Rayne, Louisiana. With determination and a strong work ethic, Joyce built a lifelong career as a talented seamstress at the garment factories in Crowley and Rayne, where she worked for many years before retiring. Even in retirement, she continued to share her gift by doing alterations from her home for many years. With an open heart and infectious smile, Joyce lived each day to its fullest. Whether surrounded by the laughter of her family, enjoying the excitement of the casino, or dancing, she found joy in every moment. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Cummings of Rayne; her son, Larry Spell of Huffman, Texas; her grandchildren, Brent Spell and wife, Tanna, of New Braunfels, Texas, Michelle Cummings Autin and husband, Kenneth, of Rayne, and Ashley Cummings Derise and husband, Dwayne, of Rayne; her great-grandchildren, Rylie Spell Stieber and husband, Colton, of Buda, Texas, Tyler Spell of New Braunfels, Texas, Layne Autin of Rayne, and Madelynn and Meredith Derise of Rayne, Louisiana; her stepchildren, Linda Fontenot, Steve Fontenot, and Kenneth Fontenot, all of Houston, Texas, and Larry Fontenot of Youngsville; along with many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Patsy Brice of Duson, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertrand and Elita Guidry; her first husband, Leroy Spell; her second husband, Fredie Fontenot; her son-in-law, Dean Cummings; her daughter-in-law, Jayme Spell; her stepson, Mickey Fontenot; her brothers, J.V. Guidry, M.B. Guidry, Bertrand Guidry, Nelson Guidry, Jack Guidry, and Rufus Guidry; and her sisters, Mable Simon, Mary Leger, and Theresa Simon. Joyce will be remembered for her love of life, her devotion to her family, and the many memories she created with those she loved. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Pallbearers will be Brent Spell, Tyler Spell, Kenneth Autin, Dwayne Derise, Layne Autin, and Steve Fontenot. A rosary will be recited Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 11:00 am at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, Louisiana on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm.
