Jimmy Eldon Short Rayne, LA - Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Jimmy Eldon Short, 63, of Katy, Texas, who passed away on Saturday June 26, 2021 in Rayne, LA. Jimmy was born to James Victor Short, Jr. and Barbara Janelle Hobbs on August 27, 1957, in Hobbs, NM. He graduated from Comeaux High School in Lafayette, LA in 1975, joined the Navy and spent the next 20+ years seeing the world until his retirement in June, 2000. Jimmy married his wife, Jennifier Cole on June 2, 2002 in Broussard, LA and worked for Halliburton until his death. He was an avid hunter, scuba diver, photographer, collector of snakes and a woodworker. The family stories of Jimmy's adventures in the swamps surrounding Broussard are endless. He never traveled through West Texas without a "snake stick" in his truck or without his camera. Over the last six months, Jimmy could often be found on his newly remodeled "man cave" deck with his grandson Harley climbing in his lap or with his beloved Boxers, Ragnar and Piper, tumbling around his feet. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William "Bubba" Wood and his wife, Jana. Survivors include his wife, Jennifier, son, Ryan Short and spouse, Shiori, three stepsons, Joshua Malagarie and spouse, Courtney and their children Enya and Wolfgang, Mac Malagarie and his children Mia, Harley and Aurora, and Julian Malagarie, three sisters, Sherry Weir and spouse, Arnold Fariello of Coral Springs, FL, Lisa Ward and spouse, Paul of The Woodlands, TX, Victoria Pierson and spouse, Aeryk of Katy, TX, and two brothers, Victor Short and spouse, Patricia of Katy, TX, and Larry Wood and spouse, Sandra Reeves of Hobbs, NM, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. The family will be forever thankful for the support of Hospice of Acadiana and the care and support provided by family and friends including Connie Reeves, Morgan Hebert and Candie Dupuis. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, LA on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
