James Edward "Joe Bob" Romero Rayne, LA - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, LA for James Edward "Joe Bob" Romero, 68, who was of the Catholic faith and was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff, LA. Rev. Connor Poirrier, Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be conducting the funeral services. James Edward "Joe Bob' Romero was born on March 10, 1955 in Kinder, LA. He attended Lake Charles Schools, and was a 1974 graduate of LaGrange Senior. While in high school, he began working for Lake Charles Truck Equipment Company and eventually transferred to the Mid South location in Broussard, LA. He enjoyed his commitment to this job for over 45 years, and retired in 2020. He always loved his co-workers and customers, and they loved him in return. In his off hours, he served as Crew Chief for Fat Chance, a hydroplane racing boat venture owned by his long-time friends George and Randy English of Youngsville, LA. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, raising cattle, working on cars and trucks, and building any kind of structure. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He will be remembered as a selfless, hard-working man who put others first and strived to stay positive and independent. Survivors include his sister, Deborah Lynn "Debbie" Romero Vezina and spouse Larry Glenn Vezina of Gillis, LA, nephew, Eric Matthew Vezina and girlfriend Heidi Buteau of Youngsville, niece, Alissa Denise Vezina Duquette of Austin, TX, as well as a multitude of extended family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Special thanks goes to his friend, Chad Dupuis and spouse Tracy Dupuis, of Taylor, AK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo James Romero and Bertha Mae Gilley Romero, paternal grandparents, Gerard Romero and Eulalie Badeau Romero, maternal grandparents, James Edward Gilley and Idella Lovett Gilley.
