James "Jimmy" Stephen Prevost Rayne, LA - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for James "Jimmy" Stephen Prevost, 64, who died Friday, July 12, 2024 at his residence. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Very Rev. Brent L. Smith, VF, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Prevost was a respected business owner of the community and served as president of C.J. Prevost Insurance Agency, Inc. and Rayne Realty Company, Inc. He was hired by both companies in 1981, and played a major role in the companies’ growth. He was licensed with the State of Louisiana as a Property and Casualty Insurance Agent, a Life and Health Agent, a Notary Public, as well as a real estate broker, and was a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser. In addition to serving the Rayne Chamber of Commerce as a board member and president, Prevost served as Frog Festival committee member and chairman. He was also a member and past president of the Rayne Lions Club, served on the St. Joseph Parish Council of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he had been a life-long parishioner and volunteer as a church usher. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Cemetery Board, Knights of Columbus and a long-time board member of the Rayne Building and Loan. He was also named King Louis I, the first king of the Grand Court Mardi Gras Krewe in 2012. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, shrimping, crawfishing, boat riding, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Aside from his family and friends, his biggest enjoyment was his love of gardening, from which he gave his produce to all he knew. A graduate of Notre Dame High School, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration from USL (now ULL) in 1981. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Aileen Harrington Prevost, daughter, Katherine Claire Prevost Stewart and spouse Mark Stewart, son, John Andrew Prevost, two grandchildren, Jett Stephen Stewart, Banks Michael Stewart, four siblings, Michael "Mike" Prevost and spouse Carolyn Prevost, Beverly Prevost Wale and spouse Jeffrey "JJ" Wale, Mark Prevost and spouse Jessica Prevost, Barry Prevost and spouse Jamie Prevost, three sisters in law, Annette Harrington, Anne Harrington, Andrea Harrington Hunt. He was preceded in death by his son, James "Stephen" Prevost, II, parents, Harold Joseph Prevost and Norma Zaunbrecher Prevost, his in laws, Jesse and Mary Berken Harrington. Pallbearers will be Mike Prevost, Mark Prevost, Barry Prevost, Mark Stewart, Jeffrey "JJ" Wale, Jeremy Prevost, Louie Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be John Andrew Prevost, Fred Zaunbrecher, David Arabie, John "Bubba" Leonards, Gaynal Savoy. A Rosary will be prayed by the Rayne Knights of Columbus Council 1897 on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. Memorial contribution can be made in James "Jimmy" Stephen Prevost's name to Rayne Catholic Elementary, Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish or any cancer society of choice.
