Gilbert William Gossen Lafayette / Roberts Cove, LA - Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove for Gilbert William Gossen, 94, who died Monday, May 25, 2026, at Calcutta House of Acadiana Hospice in Lafayette, LA. Interment will be in the St. Leo IV Cemetery in Roberts Cove, LA. Grandson Rev. Andrew Mattingly, Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Kansas City, MO will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. A Southwest Louisiana Institute (ULL) graduate Gilbert was a devoted family man, respected chemist, entrepreneur, and deeply spiritual person whose life was guided by faith, generosity, and service to others. He attended St. Joseph Catholic High School before continuing his education at Southwest Louisiana Institute (ULL). Gilbert built a distinguished career in the petroleum industry as a chemist, dedicating 30 years to Oil Center Research, where he became known for his innovation, hard work, and commitment to developing products that would benefit others throughout the industry. Following his successful career there, he founded Plusco in Houston TX, continuing his passion for creating solutions and advancing the field of Petroleum Oil Field serve products which he loved. Above all, Gilbert was known for his strong faith and love of God. A deeply spiritual man, he lived his life with kindness, humility, and compassion. He cared deeply for his family and friends and always was willing to give of himself to help others, consistently placing their needs before his own. His generosity, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will be remembered always by all who knew him. Mr. Gilbert served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963 in the Korean Conflict as a Captain. He was a member of St. Leo IV Catholic Church and Holy Name Society, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott, La. Gilbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved being with his family and sharing stories. He will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Florence Gonsoulin Gossen, three daughters, Jeannie Gossen Thibodeaux of Lafayette, Lynette Gossen Blackman and spouse Robert Blackman of Washington, LA, Kathryn Gossen Theriot of Georgetown, TX, two sons, David Gossen of Lafayette, Leonard Gossen and spouse Leslie Gossen of Lafayette, nine grandchildren, Ryan Thibodeaux, Ross Thibodeaux, Father Andrew Mattingly, Alyssa Gossen, Andrea Gossen Venable, Evan Perry, Jeanette Perry, Kaitlyn Theriot, Joshua Theriot, seven great grandchildren, sister, Henriette Gossen Didier, two brothers, Herbert Joseph Gossen, Sr., Donald Gossen and spouse Henrietta Gossen. He was preceded in death by father, Henry Peter Gossen, mother, Julia Olinger Gossen, sister, Flavia Diane Gossen, brother, Ralph Aloysius Gossen, brother-in-law, Julian Didier, two sisters in law, Elaine Leonards Gossen, Margorie Marie Gossen. Pallbearers will be Ryan Thibodeaux, Ross Thibodeaux, Evan Perry, Josh Theriot, John Gossen, and Phil Gossen. A Rosary will be prayed Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
