Fernand Joseph (Frook) Privat, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 8, 2024 at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Fernand Joseph “Frook” Privat, Jr., 78, who died Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his residence in Lafayette, LA. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Frook was born on September 30,1945 to Aline Marguerite (neé Weil) and Fernand Joseph Privat, Sr. of Rayne, LA as the sixth of nine children. He was a 1963 graduate of St. Joseph High School and served our country honorably in the US Army Reserves before returning home to help run the family business. He later pivoted to the construction business founding Privat General Contractors and developing both residential and commercial properties throughout Acadiana. Frook was devoted to his work and could often be found driving around Acadiana and the surrounding areas, scoping out areas for potential development. He was also a huge Saints fan, going to games in his younger years and hosting watch parties with his friends. While Frook lived his life to the fullest, travelling the world, collecting exotic cars, and owning thoroughbreds, he was also quietly philanthropic, giving very generously to many causes without wanting accolades or recognition. He often bought air conditioners and fans for the elderly and supported numerous charities. He is survived by his three children, Matthew Privat and his partner Steven Morvant, Joshua Privat and Pharaby Privat Jeffrey, his beloved grandchildren, Emerson Privat, Jesse Jeffrey, Luke Jeffrey, and Payton Jeffrey, the loving mother of his children Sharon Daigle Privat, all of Lafayette, and his four siblings Josette Privat Delahousaye, Johnny Privat of Lafayette, Yvonne Privat Nickel of Crowley, and George Privat of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernand and Aline Weil Privat, his siblings, Jeanne Privat Gossen, Aline Marguerite Privat Thibodaux, Pierre Privat, Jacques Privat, and his son-in-law, Matthew Jeffrey. Visitation will be at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024 and Monday, July 8, 2024 from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any of the following charities, Rayne Catholic Elementary, Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Lafayette, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
