Evelyn Marie Guidry Sonnier

Rayne, LA – Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne, LA for Evelyn Marie Guidry Sonnier, 88, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at her residence. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Deacon Dennis LaCroix of St. Joseph Catholic Church will conduct the services. A Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning in Gossen Funeral Home. Evelyn, affectionately known as Mom or Mom-Mom, lived a long life filled with deep love for her family. She became a mother to seven children, six girls and one son. From then, her family grew, making her a grandmother to twelve grandchildren, and twenty one great grandchildren and eight great - great grandchildren, all of them who loved her dearly. Evelyn had a kind generous heart, but she was very protective of her family and would give anyone a challenge if her family were threatened. Evelyn loved her French music; she was a very good dancer back in her younger years. Evelyn also loved family gatherings at which most times she was the life of the party. Evelyn even loved her grand-pets, especially dogs, we often had to tell her to stop giving them snacks, in fear they would explode, but that was her nature, always wanting to nourish her flock. She will be missed deeply by all including her nieces and nephews, and neighbors as well. We want to thank crystal with Bridgeway Hospice for making her transition comfortable and with dignity. She is survived by her daughters, Geraldine and husband Steve Comeaux Sr., Pearl and husband Carroll Owens, Gloria and husband Kenneth Soileaux, Marlene and husband Jeffery Gautreaux, Debbie and husband Chad Prejean, and Angel Sonnier; her son, Daniel Romero; twelve grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Irvin Sonnier; her parents, Maurice Guidry and Lydia Richard; her sister, Lula Simon; her brother, Andrus Guidry; her grandson, Bryan Comeaux; and her great-granddaughter, Summer Gaudet. Pallbearers will be Tyler Prejean, Jayden Prejean, Lanan Meche, Dwayne Gautreaux, Steve Comeaux Jr., and Robert Simon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Romero, her son Daniel Romero, Keith Owens, and Kenneth Comeaux, Visitation will be observed on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA.
