Elwood Louis Broussard Mire, LA - Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 at a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire for Elwood Louis Broussard, 85, who died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Interment will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire, LA. Rev. Bret Lee, Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, LA will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Born and raised in Rayne, Mr. Broussard graduated from Rayne High School in 1958. He worked for over 40 years in air conditioning and refrigeration supply with Cagle Supply and Coburn Supply with whom he retired from in Lafayette, LA. He enjoyed the simple life, drag racing, classic cars, good food, family, his weekly “table of knowledge” meetings with his high school classmates, Cajun music and dancing as well as traveling. Survivors include his two children, Jason Broussard, Stephanie Broussard, grandson, Matteo Broussard, long time companion, Catherine Bellow, brother, Melvin Broussard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Katherine Prejean Broussard, father, Clenie "CJ" "Bruce" Broussard, and mother, Irvy Alleman. Pallbearers will be Matteo Broussard-grandson, Quinton Boudreaux-honorary grandson and great nephew, Anthony Boudreaux- great nephew, Greg Boudreaux-nephew in-law, Michael Bourque-nephew, Mitchell Bourque-nephew. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Broussard-Godchild (deceased), Michael Boudreaux-great nephew. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday, August 9, 2026 at 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home on Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Tunnel to Towers, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Shriners Children's Hospital.
