Edward Morris Moody, Sr.

It is the kind of man he was.” EDWARD MORRIS MOODY SR. The family and friends of Edward M. Moody Sr. affectionately known as Eddie or Papa, are mourning his loss. He passed away on April 29, 2021 at the age of 93. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Monday May 3, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne. Rev. Benjamin Pitre, Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Catholic Church will be the celebrant. Readers and gift bearers will be Papa’s great grandchildren. Visitation will be observed at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne from 11:00 AM until the time of services. A eulogy will be offered by family at 1:15. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. Pallbearers will be Neil E. Savoy, Dr. Ed Moody III, Bryan J. Moody, Dr. Wayne “Boo” Cestia, Jacob Wesley Pitts and Neil S. Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be his hunting and fishing buddies. He was born in Kinder, LA to Lon Jacob Moody Jr. and Cecile Badeaux Moody on January 11, 1928, the third of their four children. He grew up in sawmill camps until the family settled near Eunice, LA. In his teens he moved to Rayne where his father established Moody Truck Line. As a young man he attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston before enlisting in the U S Navy, serving as an aviation specialist. After being honorably discharged he returned to Rayne to marry his sweetheart Johanne Mauboules on June 5, 1948. They made their home in Rayne and spent their lives together working, traveling and raising their family. His interests included traveling in their motor homes, hunting, fishing, flying and following his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their scholastic and sporting events. He was preceded in death by his wife, his beloved grandson Scott Savoy, his parents, his sister Margaret M. Pellegrin (Terry Sr.) of Houma, LA, and one brother Patrick Moody of Rayne. Survivors include his daughter Cynthia M. Savoy (Rodney) of Lafayette, his son Dr. Edward M. Moody II (Marita Stelly) of Rayne, his brother L. J. Moody III and wife Louetta Hains Moody of Rayne, grandchildren Neil Savoy, Dr. Ed Moody III (Crystal Lyons) of Rayne, Shelley Savoy Cestia (Dr. Wayne ‘Boo’ Cestia) of Lafayette, Bryan J. Moody (Jennifer Toups) of Cypress, TX, Jacklyn M. Pitts (Jacob Wesley) of Rayne and ten great grandchildren, Blair, Zach, Mia and Clay Cestia, Jillian and Collin Moody, Annabelle and Sebastian Pitts and Ella and Madelyn Moody. Thanks to everyone who spent time with Papa, shared a photo with him and otherwise enriched his life and their own in doing so. He appreciated and loved every one of you. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following schools: St. Thomas More, Notre Dame, St. Michael, Our Lady of Fatima or ESA or to the charity of your choice.
