Bonnie Sonnier Fontenot Mire, LA - Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at a 11:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, LA for Bonnie Sonnier Fontenot, 78, who died Saturday, February 15, 2025 at The Ellington Nursing Home in Rayne, LA surrounded by her family. Interment will be in the St. Edmund Cemetery in Branch, LA. Rev. Edward Duhon, Pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. The readers will be her grandchildren, Xander Richard and Caroline Zimmerman. Gift bearers will be grandchildren, Alaina Thibodeaux, Karleigh Fontenot and Kinsley Fontenot. Mrs. Bonnie worked for the USPS for 30 years as a substitute rural mail carrier. she was well known in the Mire Community and School for coaching basketball and baseball. PTC member at Mire Elementary during her children's school years. She was a 4-H sponsor and Girl Scout Leader. Survivors include three daughters, Anne Fontenot, Josette Fontenot Richard and spouse Wayne Richard, Gayle Fontenot Zimmerman and spouse Jack Zimmerman, two sons, Fred Fontenot and spouse Trudy Fontenot, Jude Fontenot and spouse Kim Fontenot, nine grandchildren, Koby Fontenot, Phillip Richard, Billy Thibodeaux, Alaina "Tita" Thibodeaux, Logan Richard, Caroline Zimmerman, Kayley Zimmerman, Jacob Fontenot, Kaleb Fontenot, six great grandchildren, Xander Richard, Karleigh Fontenot, Sadie Richard, Kinsley Fontenot, Lila Richard, Camille Richard, two brothers, Tony Sonnier, Jeffrey "Jeff" Sonnier and spouse Lisa Sonnier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Fontenot, Jr., infant daughter, Caroline Fontenot, parents, Wallace Sonnier and Sadie Boudreaux Sonnier, one sister, Peggy Sonnier Cormier. Pallbearers will be Koby Fontenot, Billy Thibodeaux, Phillip Richard, Logan Richard, Kaleb Fontenot, and Dale Guilbeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Fontenot, Jude Fontenot, Wayne Richard, Jack Zimmerman, and Jacob Fontenot. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 6:00 pm in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA. The family requests that visitation be observed in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA on Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Our family would like to extend great appreciation and gratitude to The Ellington staff and Dr. Curtis. The staff has shown unwavering kindness, compassion, and attention to detail to our mom and family throughout this entire journey. The entire staff treated Bonnie (BonBon)not only as a resident but their friend. Bon Bon knew all staff, their names, nick names, and their department they worked. Bon Bon loved the staff, enjoyed joking and laughing with them. The staff made her last year enjoyable and memorable. Thanks to all The Ellington Staff.
