Anthony Wayne "Tony" Lavergne Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 1:30 PM with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, LA, for Anthony Wayne "Tony" Lavergne, 79, who passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne, LA. The Very Rev. Brent L. Smith VF will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Tony a native of Church Point, LA, and longtime resident of Rayne. Tony was a man who lived with great pride, dignity, and independence. He was a steadfast pillar of strength within his family, known for his unwavering faith and deep commitment to God and his loved ones. Throughout his life, Tony devoted much of his time to mentoring children of all ages, imparting wisdom, love, and guidance that touched many. His dedication to his community was clear in every aspect of his life. Tony spent many years working in the maintenance department of Sunbeam Bread Co. and Rayne Wholesale, before taking on the challenge of owning and operating Tony’s Amoco Gas Station and Tony’s Taxi Service. Alongside his wife Marie, he poured his heart into these businesses, serving his community with integrity and dedication for many years. After retiring, Tony found joy in dancing to Cajun and Zydeco music, often spending time at fairs, festivals, and dance halls across Louisiana. Those who knew him will remember his love for the music, the way he lit up a room with his presence, and the joy he shared with his friends and family. In addition to his love for music, Tony enjoyed gardening, a hobby he found peace and solace in. He took great pride in building birdhouses and watching birds find a home in them, a testament to his nurturing and loving nature. Tony is survived by his son, Troy Lavergne and his wife Susan; daughter-in-law, Pauline Romero; sisters, Gloria Comeaux; and Cynthia, and her husband Kenneth Comeaux. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his son, Darin Romero; parents John and Edith Abshire Lavergne; wife, Marie Latiolais Lavergne; brothers, John, Robert, Charlie, and Joseph Black Lavergne; and sisters, Joyce Richard, Mary Melancon, Gayle Broussard, Glenda Arsement, and Gerry Lavergne. He is also preceded in death by his nephews Kenny Quibodeaux, Carl Richard, V.J. Lavergne and Kevin Breaux, his nieces Brandy Arsement and her child Hunter, and Malorie Comeaux. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Comeaux, Troy Lavergne, Brandon Romero, Nick Delhomme, Lucas Comeaux, and Timmy Quibodeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Will Comeaux, Kenrick Roy, Noah Roy, Xander Doucet, Victor Comeaux, Mason Thibodeaux, Blaine Trahan. Proclaiming the scriptures will be Angel Schexnayder, and Kayla Cook; gift bearers will be Beatrice Comeaux, and Tara Quibodeaux. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 6:00 PM in Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, LA. The family will receive visitors at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
